on Harry Potter...

I realised that in my whole blog I haven't talked about Harry Potter and my little infatuation, okay, obsession, with the story.

I finished rereading the series last week (see a few entries below). And as usual, it gets me through me stress and into a familiar groove. I invite all who are as into Harry as I am to post comments about him, Ron, and Hermione, Fred, George, etc. etc...

I wasn't ever going to read Harry because he was such a fad, and I try to stay away from those (this blog excepted!) :) But I took a kids' lit course at university and had to read the third book. I figured if I wanted to understand it fully I should start the series from the beginning.

In short, I fell in love... and I've never looked back. I have all 6 books, am impatiently waiting for the 7th book while dreading it at the same time because that means it will be over. I do believe JK Rouwling when she says she won't write after Harry's 7th year at Hogwarts. It just wouldn't be the same...

The first time I read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince I cried after Dumbledore was killed. But in a way I felt justified because I just knew, no matter what anybody ever said during any of the books, that Snape was evil. I knew it. I was always suspicious of him; my room-mate and I had many late-night, gin-and-tonic-fueled discussions about all things Harry Potter and we were agreed on it. And the reason Dumbledore trusts Snape (feeling sorry for hearing the prophecy and sending James and Lily Potter to their deaths) is not strong enough a reason for me. Any thoughts...

One thought on what's going to happen - I wonder if Dumbledore or Fawkes will come back. Harry thought he saw a phoenix rise from the ashes of Dumbledore's grave at the end of the book. I think Fawkes will come back and be a powerful help to Harry. Harry as a wizard is not fully developed yet. He'll need help.

R.A.B. - the person who found the locket horcrux. I think it's Regulus Black, Sirius's brother. In Order of the Phoenix Siruis tells Harry that his brother was killed by Voldemort himself, and thinks that he must have done something very wrong to merit that.

JK Rouwling has said that one or two characters will be killed in the last book. I wonder if she'll have Harry killed and risk the outrage of all her young viewers. I wouldn't put it past her, seeing the other characters that have passed away. I think it will be either Ron or Hermione and someone else.

So ends the Harry Potter post. I love that series so much it was bound to come up somewhere on this blog. As the day for the 7th book draws near or if the next movie comes out, expect to hear more about it... but this should do for now...
