Pride & Prejudice

So last night Mike and I watched the new "Pride & Prejudice".

I really enjoyed it, that being one of my favourite books. Not having reread it in a long time, I couldn't remember all the discrepancies. But I think that they captured the whole passion and anger and misunderstanding between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy perfectly. They smoulder onsreen. I'm surprised the TV didn't start on fire, actually. Mmmmm, that Mr. Darcy...

Now you may express surprise at the fact that Mike watched the whole thing with me, considering that it is a "chick flick." But we have a deal about movies that works very well (ah, the compromise of marriage... I watch his "kill 'em up, shoot 'em up" movies (as he puts it) and he watches my "chick flicks"... and it all works out.

Although I don't have to see "The Matrix" or any of its sequels for awhile... Or Fantastic 4...

I enjoyed the new P & P too - it had brilliant cinematography and such a realistic 'earthy'feel to it. I really enjoyed the way they did scene transitions and the scene from outside the house looking into all the different bedroom windows. A true work of art on film! I didn't think another Darcy could rival Colin Firth, but what's-his-name did a pretty splendid job of the role. They really played the walking-out-of-the-mist part well. I liked how they showed Lizzy's friend's choice of Mr. Collins in a more believable way in the new film too. It made me want to read the book again - a most excellent work of prose indeed!
