Sunday Scribblings...Hotels
Perhaps because it was Mexico, perhaps it was because I was on my honeymoon, or perhaps because of the stress of moving across the country and planning a wedding was too much and I needed a week of tropical weather and five-star pampering. But whatever it was or maybe everything it was, whenever I think of hotels, I think of the Eldorado Royale on the Mayan Riviera.
The few months before our August wedding were extremely busy... I was packing my stuff to move to B.C. from Ontario, finishing up my report cards, trying to sell my clunker car, and planning for my wedding from four provinces away. When I moved back temporarily to my parents home, I had more stuff to pack for my move to our new apartment, wedding favours and centrepieces to pick out and then assemble, furniture to buy...
Our wedding day was everything we wanted it to be - a fabulous day spent with family and friends. We left the next day for Mexico and it truly was paradise. The Eldorado Royale was the fanciest place both of us had ever been to and we were so thankful for splurging on our honeymoon. We spent our days sleeping in, eating gourmet breakfasts, lounging by the pool, swimming together, getting dressed up every night for dinner, playing outdoor chess. There were no buffets or funky food to worry about. The night the hurricane passed by our area we stayed in our room, watched "Sleepless in Seattle" while cuddled up in bed, and ordered red wine and nachos from room service...
Two years later and I still dream of that vacation. Truly a rest and restoration of the soul and the perfect way to start our married life... no cares or worries, no deadlines or stress, just M and me, the sun, the sea breeze...
