a little homesick...

last night I covered a high school graduation. the theme they had picked was Vancouver. one wall was painted in the city skyline (pictured above) and the stage was decorated to look like a wharf on Granville Island. they even had a replica of the lighthouse at Prospect Point in Stanley park.
they picked this theme because of a class trip they went on last September where they had such a good time and really bonded as a class...
I could not take my eyes off of it... I was homesick. while I was automatically and physically snapping photos and taking notes, I was really walking by UBC breathing in the sea-scented air and gazing at the North Shore mountains... I was back walking down Robson or Granville or Waterfront Streets taking in the sights and sounds that are Vancouver (starbucks coffee in hand, of course)... with good friends from university that have moved away or moved on... walking hand in hand with Mike down the cobblestone sidewalks in gastown... eating my way through various ethnic adventures...
the only times I've been struck with such homesickness is when I know the rest of my family is gathering together and I won't be there... or just after I've gotten off the phone with my Mom or sisters...
I miss it... I miss them... but what a delightful trip back home...
