you say potato...

As I was slicing potatoes up for dinner last night, I contemplated the fact that when I make baked potatoes (which is what I prefer, being the easiest method to cook this starchy delight) I only need 2 potatoes - one for me and one for M. However, when I make barbecued potatoes, like I was doing last night, or mashed potatoes, I need 5 to 8 potatoes to adequately feed the two of us.

Why is that, I wondered? Potatoes are potatoes, big or small, they suddenly don't lose mass or weight because of different cooking methods, do they? Archimedes should have contemplated this problem in the bath tub, instead of thinking about how to tell the difference between real or fake gold. I could use a "Eureka!" moment.

Last week at this time I was in Fort Langley enjoying the wonderful company of two of my sisters, eating large amounts of delicious gelato and getting eaten alive by the plentiful mosquito population there. I had a great week Down South, just hanging out with my family, catching up with some friends, shopping til I dropped(my suitcase coming back was overweight, but the kindly Air Canada guy let it go through... I swear pregnant women can get away with ANYTHING... and then once the baby is born - nothing... Seriously, I had one Safeway employee running all the over the store because I asked if they sold cold bottled water... he was pretty new and didn't know where it was and it was kind of fun to watch him run from one end of the store to another... ahhh, the power...)

Anyways, it was great to be able to see all my nieces and nephews again (they're getting so big!) and chat with long lost brothers and sister-in-laws... to go out for Timmie's with my Mom and talk about baby stuff and parenting and glean from her wisdom. (I am truly blessed with two sets of fabulous parents...) Being the second youngest in the family, I do not have a lot of experience with babies. And when my nieces and nephews came along, I always made my sister K change the diapers when we babysat them. So really, I'm going into this baby thing rather cold... I hope that the mother's intuition people say always kicks in when the baby is born comes full force with me... Good thing M has lots of experience with all his younger brothers.

Looking back on my time there, I really didn't do a whole lot as in go places and do activities... and looking back it seems like it was such a short time and part of me didn't want to go (though I did miss M an awful lot). But it was great just to spend time with family and friends and really just enjoy their company, because usually when we go Down South it's for a whirlwind weekend and then we're gone again. But this time I could spend leisurely time with them, stock up on all sorts of baby things they don't have up here and all in all have a good time.

I'll be posting some pics on Facebook soon...
