ramblings...
I know it's been a long time since I've written anything. The old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" was coming into play. I was very busy, and felt like I was complaining all the time about how busy I was. I felt I needed something more to write about than me whining about all the stuff I had to do. But I've come to terms with that and realise that busy-ness is okay... and I can face my "to do list" head-on without cowering in fear and stress before it... the things on the "to do list" mean good things will happen afterwards...
And ironically, I do give myself things to do... like my beautiful, vibrant, verdant garden... verdant possibly because of all the weeds that I can't seem to stay ahead of. But my beans, beets, lettuce, potatoes and corn are thriving and I am excited. I spent last Thursday morning weeding as much as I could... meaning that I only weeded the rows where I could tell the difference between weeds and vegetables... As I weed I think about the all the fresh veggies we'll enjoy at the end of the summer and all through the winter... I hope my wild flowers will fare just as well... I'm looking forward to the profusion of colour...
Also, I bought this old cupboard that I'm planning on restoring... we have this weird-shaped nook in our house between the kitchen and living room where the phone goes. The thing is, nothing fits there so our phone sits on the floor and the nook is now home to seed potatoes, a tv dinner tray (which we were using as a nightstand), my purses, etc... I was at this garage sale last week and found this cupboard that was only a foot wide... perfect! It's now a hideous, faded red colour, but I'm envisioning a "strong espresso" colour with new pewter handles... it will look so good... and will help to stay more organised (keys, wallets, purses will finally have a home instead of being dropped wherever)
I had to visit the hardware store to order my new kitchen. I was dreading going there on my day off, because I HAD SO MUCH TO DO... but the thing is, going there meant that I was getting a new kitchen... hmm... perspective... I'll take some before pictures so that when the kitchen comes in you'll be blown away by how good it looks...
Our home has also been inundated with family members... our household of three (including Koko) has now almost doubled to 6 as my 3 outlaw brothers (aka Mike's brothers) have joined us in the Bulkley Valley and are looking for jobs in Houston or Smithers and need a place to stay. I never realised how busy it would be... But it's great having them here and hanging out with them again... it's just a shame that work has been so crazy that I've been a little stressed out and when I get home I don't really relax instantly... the rest of Mike's family is in Telkwa where his dad is student preaching for the summer... it's great to have all the family here again! If only they could stay...
This morning I got a sneak peek at the mural in Houston's new pool/leisure facility. It is amazing! It covers three walls and it's a picture of the landscape outside Houston - lakes, trees, blue sky, powdery clouds... It took my breath away! I interviewed the artist and he's so passionate about what he does. Question: what do you get when an artist turns developer? The most uniquely-designed condo buildings I've ever seen... this artist is from Comox, BC (on the island) and he designed these spectacular condos that look like old marine wharf buildings and, the best part of it? the decks are restored boats... I saw the picture on his business card and I wanted to live there.
Meeting and talking with those kinds of people is the best part of my job... not just the creative and entrepreneurial people, but the regular joes as well... I love taking people out for coffee and doing interviews with them and hearing them tell their stories... because everyone has a story worth telling and every story is worth hearing... and I get to do that as part of my job, even if it is so busy...
So, the ramblings must end at some point, and this is it...
