taking a (well-deserved) breather...
What a week this has been! Our new house is not a home yet, it's an obstacle course! Boxes, tables, boxes, TVs, chairs, paint cans... did I mention boxes? and throw a grand piano into the mix... yup, it's a moving-in jungle... Koko is finding it enjoyable - all these things to navigate around and jump on and get into... atleast one member of the household is thoroughly enjoying the whole process...
Mike and I have been painting til 10 or 11 at night... and we're getting pretty sick of it... and the people at the hardware store know us by name after going there THREE times in the last week to get paint. Someone (and it wasn't me, and I'm not naming names, of course...) had the wonderful idea of painting the trim a dark colour... hmm... that didn't work out so well. Two trim colours, many "discussions", several consultation with friends and relatives, and another trip to Home Hardware later... and the trim is white and the walls are now a darker colour... where is Debbie Travis when you need her? But my sister-in-law Kari is a great stand-in, with wonderful ideas about home decorating... she has fabulous taste... Thanks, Kari.
And work! It never rains but pours... I have been running around all week to different events and interviews... from donning a hard hat twice this week - once to visit the Canfor mill and the other to tour the new pool facility to interviewing 5 hyper teenagers organising youth events (I remembered the reason why I didn't pursue becoming a teacher! :) to a Chamber of Commerce luncheon about the census... One thing great about this job is that I do get to met so many people and go to so many different kinds of places and events... but it can get busy, especially since I'm the only reporter in Houston and I'm the only here to cover all the things that happen.
And here I am waiting for people to phone me back so I get write another article before I go home... but the nice thing is that tomorrow, after covering a thing in the morning, I get to go home at 1:00 in the afternoon - there are some perks to this job :)

Hey Di,
Sucks that this is the week that is so busy at work. Go figure, i guess. I hope that you can still enjoy your birthday tomorrow:)
I really think the place looks awesome now with the dark color and white trim. Totally gets my vote!! I never know whether to remain neutral or be honest. In any case - I'm glad you did what you did. I like... a lot.
You gotta watch the last 5 min of 'Down to You'. Their new apartment is so cute and stylish. I love it!
Anyways, we'll talk later!!!
Thanks for updating your blog - I enjoy reading your entries. You're such a creative writer. No wonder everyone loves Houston's new reporter!
Chow for now!
Kari
