rock and roll high school
Okay, okay, with all the dialogue going on about the hallowed halls of learning that is Credo Christian High School (I speak, if not sarcastically, atleast facetiously), and all our wonderful years spent there, I have to continue to write about it (while keeping an eye on Koko, who has this knack of getting into everything.)
Like I commented on May's blog, I do not know how I did get the grades I got in high school with all the work I didn't do and all the socialising and goofing off (in and out of class) that I did do. Some of my favourite memories include sitting in the back row with Annette during Bio 11 and 12 and all the tests we cheated on. It was pitifully easy. (and I apologise for that now, Mr. Helliwell). And what about French 12 with Klefty? (you know, for a moment I didn't even remember his real name! Kieft, btw) We all know the only reason we joined was for the chance to go to Quebec. Now ten years later, I'm glad I did that, if only for the chance to say, "Well, when I was in Quebec..." (it gives a certain air, almost as good as if you've been to Europe. almost.)
Two good things from high school: I credit Mr. B. Moes and Mr. Schon for teaching me how to write essays (well, they gave me a great beginning in essay-writing, which served me well through all my years of university), instilling in me a love of history and English (which Mr. Blom began in Grade 11 English) and making their subjects interesting and fun (as really good teachers know how to do).
That's all the good things I remember at this point in time...
And here is a quote from the infamous blue book, a documentation of almost the entire year of grade 11... During her good bye paragraph, here is what May wrote of me:
And Di... oh boy! We'll all remember her "Is my hair frizzy?!" (comment: that hasn't changed) And I'll remember eating her delicious lunches before lunch, and our communal lunches at lunch (I had totally forgotten about that! but it's true, my lunch would almost be gone before 12, except for my apple, which I would eat on the bus ride home) Of course, there's her annoying love of the Beatles (groan) (still there) There's all the times in Band we watched for Jeannie while she went on the roof for a quick smoke. There's the Literary contest we both won, and our constant contest for grades. And of course, the disgusting smell of Ocean Mist that hung over our locker bank for weeks on end b/c Diana doesn't understand how air fresheners work.
Well, I'll have to peruse the pages for some more snippets, but I'll leave with that for now.
(pet peeve: I hate it when companies call you, and then put YOU on hold while they transfer you to a rep... I always hang up... why do they do that?)
